**Chapter 1: In The Dark**
Maybe it's just me but sometimes no matter how hard you try, things never work out...
Pitch black swirls of unrelenting shadows surround and envelope. Some shadows stand out more than others, actually seeming to be whispering to each other and pointing.
Can't make out many shapes and it's just a bunch of blobs, so they may or may not be pointing. But becoming quiet, whispers are actually heard.
Minutes, hours, days, it's impossible to tell how long time really spanned. But it does come to knowledge that it has been further on. And you don't like it.
The chatter of the creatures is just another annoyance. You can barely here and smelling of feeling is out if the question. Lost all sense of direction. Which way is up? Or down?
Closing your eyes you drift off, unaware of the sudden silence. They no longer whisper as sleep takes over.
Chanting.
That's what it is. Awakening to the sound of chants, body pulsing and riveting with convulsions, your unsure whether you are going to throw up or pass out again. It is neither. A scream splits the tension and a large crack is heard somewhere far off. It's quiet again.
Another crack.
The scream starts up again and soon, your knocked out once more, everything, submissing to unconsciousness.
...
**Chapter 2; The Encounter**
She remembered thunder and crashing waves, lightning darting across the sky and vanishing just as fast. Salt breeze and water was all her senses registered and when she managed to open her eyes, ocean water washed over her, drowning out her shouts until finally, she felt the dragging tug of unconsciousness. It beckoned her into the darkness that to her at the time, would feel like heaven.
And she let it consume her, the breath left her and she closed her eyes, hopefully for good....

Rowan glanced down at the fragment of dark stone attached to a silver string that was then tied about his neck. Touching it always kept his nerves at bay, that and it gave him a reason to keep going. Having just fall upon, he wanted to know where it came from, who it belonged to originally. Which was why he was going to enroll in the Guild.
From growing up to now, he had always had a knack for exploring. But being the chicken he is, he was no match for the *real* exploration teams.
It was sunset, a bad time to drop in on the Guild, but where else could he go? And if not now, when?
The Guild from the outside looked like just a tent with torches surrounding it and the top in the shape of it's previous guildmaster, Wigglytuff. But on the inside a wooden latter ran down into a system of caverns that served as the Guild's actual domain. From where I was, it looked like a magnificent castle. Two large torches supported by metal plates stood tall, illuminating the fastly approaching dark. The sky had turned a fading pink with purple beginning to bleed in. The sight was overall breathtaking. But he wasn't here for the view. He looked down at the grate that sat on top of a large hole in the ground, it was shadowed from where he was looking and it sort of scared him.
"I can do this!" He whispered to himself. Toy soldier style, he strutted right on top of the grate, his face growing hot with anxiety as he awaited for what may come.
Nothing, no feather or tongue gripped his feet, no hot wave of heat washed over him, not a soun-
"FOOTPRINT DETECTED! FOOTPRINT DETECTED! WHO'S FOOTPRINT? WHO'S FOOTPRINT? THE FOOTPRINT IS RIOLU'S! THE FOOTPRINT IS RIOLU'S!"
Rowan was startled, falling back and landing with a hard thump onto his butt and tail. "What the!" He exclaimed, kicking away from the grate. One minute complete the second, the next he was on the ground rubbing his rump.
The boy got up, dusting himself off of dirt with a halfhearted swipe of a paw. Disappointment shadowed his features. He couldn't even stand on a grate without messing something up. He frowned, his paw lightly touching the stone piece, "Some explorer..." he muttered turning away to go back down to the beach.
He couldn't show his face until at least the majority of pokemon were asleep. Heading away from the guild, his feet scuffed the pebbly sand as he went downhill.
He didn't know why, but the beach had always washed away his worries and what not, it would work now as well. Rowan walked onto the golden shores just as the Krabby strated their damce of blowing bubbles, a famous thing around Treasure Town. He looked up, his green eyes glowing with awe. His worries seemed to wash away wth waves as they gently kissed the sandy shire, it's golden grains seeming to gleam with the lights blessing.
His feet left small indentions in the wet sand as he continued his way down the expense of beach. Rowan didn't bother looking ahead, besides the occasional bottle, the beach was always clear of litter and trash. So when he tripped in the sand, it vame as surprise as he did a faceplant into the beach. Gathering himself, he spat out the grains and tried to clear is eyes so he could find the culprit who tripped him. Being who he was, Rowan had only tripped on a small clump of sand, but when he looked ahead, he practically repeated his accident.
Up further ahead, a body lay gently on the sand, half inside the wake of the waves. Scrambling onto his feet, he jogged up the body, peering over to get a glimpse of the face. The back was blue, dark blue, almost like a black sea. The inner body was a much gentler cream that was easy to the eyes. It was girl by her looks. Gentle curves and just a softer touch than what a guy might have. Rowan gently rocked her with a paw. "Are you alright?"
*******
She didn't know how long she'd been out. But light filtered through her closed eyes, it seemed to hold a red tinge, it must be dusk. But it wasn't the light that led her to be coherent. A voice beckoned to her from the darkness, a touch sent shiver through her already icy cold body. The touch was more warm than anything she had experienced. Eyes fluttering, she fought to keep them open, the tug of a dreariness stronger as time went on. Her body rocked slightly and she convulsed, she felt wet, not sea wet, but something else. She moved, looking up to see a bright-eyed riolu staring down at her.
"Aaaaaah!" She squealed, whipping to the side and pushing away from him. He fell back with surprise.
"Hey, hey! Stop!" Sand was flung at him as she tried to escape him.
"Knock it off!" He glared at the strange girl, but she continued to crawl away from him.
But then, she collapsed....
His green eyes looked around her to where he saw blood pooling around, soaking into the pearly grains and staining them crimson. "Your hurt." He stated, stepping closer.
She cringed away from him, but the sharp pain in her side was more than enough to get her to calm down. The riolu dropped to his knees, kneeling over her, his hand outstretched to help. She turned, exposing the bloody wound in her side.
"You hit a rock." He explained, wrapping an arm around her shoulders to support her. But she stilled seemed quite shellshocked, "But your a pokemon! Your not supposed to talk!" She whined, her mouth slightly parted and her silver eyes wide.
Rowan looked at her as if a shellder was attached to her nose, "....Yes, but you are too." He gestured to her body with his free arm and for the first time that day, she looked down.
She was a cyndaquil! Her slim shape and navy blue and cream colors were evident.
"But...I'm human...." And the more she talked, the less certain she became.
Rowan, seeing they weren't going anywhere soon, set her down and took a seat in front of her. "Human? I don't think so..... What's your name?" It finally dawned on him he didn't know her name.
"It's Ann." She spoke clear, but the word felt odd as it rolled off her tongue. She had no idea what her name was, she just came up with it. Besides, he'd probably think her a loony if she said she didn't know.
"Pretty odd name..."
If only looks could kill..

"How about Ash? I like that name!" He said with a burst of enthusiasm.
"Yeah right..." She still wasn't believing anything coming from this guys mouth.
So, As-; no, Ann, yes thats better; was in a little remote place called Treasure Town. This guy, the Riolu, was named Rowan who happened to live here. After failing some sort of test, he came down to the beach where he found her.
"I'm for real though!" He protested.
She cringed as another wave crashed, the salty air touching her wound to where it burned. Rowan's gaze softened and he finally got up, draping his arm once more around her. "Come on Ash, I'll help you with that at least."
She was going to correct him, but instead, she was smacked in the face by something. "Ouch." She exclaimed rubbing her nose.
Cinder looked at a dark stone that seemed to be *alive*, it's insides actually moving and swirling. It even seemed to pulse with life in it's dark violet color, it was smooth and practically glowing. "What is this?" She asked, poking it and prodding it with her nose. She was finally getting used to this whole pokemon thing.
"Oh this? It's my personal um...treasure. it sort of helps me when I feel bad." He blushed harshly and smiled sheepishly.
Ash rolled her eyes and unlocked his grip soon after she was patched up, "I can stand, I'll be okay." She resisted his protest and finally got a moment of silence.
**Chapter 3; Those Damn Goons**
After ten minutes of squabbling and shouting about what she should actually be called, she finally gave into his request of Ash. After all, she had no real memories, so the name she thought she had, may, or may not be real.
But what she did know, was that she did not belong in this world. What surprised her the most was how oblivious Rowan seemed to all this. It was apparent that he was just delighted to have a friend.
"So where did you come from?" He finally asked after a few moments.
"Honestly, I'm not sure."
The conversation carried on like that as the sun dipped lower and lower, the tides seemed to calm as they drifted into the scene.
***
As Ash gazed at this, Rowan had other thoughts...
*Who was this girl?*
*Where did she come from?*
*And what's with the whole human thing?!*
He shook his head, taking the opportunity of her distraction to look at her in a curious and innocent way. It was cute. In a childish and playful way...
She turned, her head turning slowly and her eyes dazed, wait, no. She was looking past him. Her head tilted as if in confusion and he followed suit.
His back came in contact with something hard and rough and he was shoved forward, tipping him forward as he crashed into Ash, faceplanting into her chest and knocking them both to the ground.
It was even more odd when he was instataneously choked, the pain releasing him as something snapped.
Rowan, still in a state of shock and adrenaline, had to be roused by poor Ash who was strattled by his body mass.
*******
"Get OFF of me!" She squealed as she crawled out from under his heavy chest. The girl spun on him, her eyes ablaze with obvious irritation.
"What the Hell was that?!"
"I'm not sure."
Rowan slowly got up, reaching up to rub the back of his heck and touch his dark stone. Cinder watched as his face transformed into realization and he went into panic mode.
"It's gone!"
"What is?"
"The stone! My treasure! I was just mugged!"
He grabbed her shoulders, rocking her slightly, his eyes wide with worry and fear. Ash felt a surge if sympathy for the poor boy and put a reasurring hand in his wrist. Unhooking his grasp on her and managing just barely to calm him down.
"We have to get it back!" He proclaimed, his composure still worrisome, but much less fearful.
Cinder noded, "Alright then." She said not really understanding the situation form Rowan's perspective. Rowan's face lit up like the night sky on the fourth of July, his smile making a reappearance.
"Are you serious?" He asked.
"Of course I am. I won't leave my hero to face challenges alone."
He blushed again, running the back of his head as if he'd been hit with a stone.
"Um...so, can you fight?"
She fell silent, not sure of her answer. Yes; in human form. Pokemon? Not really...
She turned tiwards the water, opening her mouth and waiting for some sort of smoke or burst of flame.
*Nothing.*
"Great..." She said with a hopeless throw of her head. Rowan, being the supportive guy, walked up with that smile, "Hey, don't worry so much about fire and focus on physical contact." He said as he started walking down the beach.
Cinder followed, not taking this situation as seriously as she should have.
The pair came to the great mouth of a cave, the red, glaring, stone seeming to catch fire as the light's dying rays hit it's shiny surface. She stood back in awe while Rowan investigated the crime scene. The inside of the cave gave her chills, the cool breeze though continued to soothe her still aching wound. At least it would be cool oncw they were inside. Still, Cinder thought about the many questions that still haunted her.
*Who were those guys that made off with the stone?*
*Why did they take it?*
And then there were the ones regarding her. Gosh, what was wrong with her?!
"They went in the cave!"
Rowan's voice broke through her thoughts and she snapped to attention, looking after him as he went into the darkness.
"Come on Ash!" He called.
Ash gave an exaggerated sigh, holding in her nerves and fears. But she followed after him, her anxiety sky rocketing as the black atmosphere swallowed her whole..
"Rowan?!" She whispered, fear lining her whispers as her poor visions continued to search for him. Something bumoed her, causing her to shriek in terror. A paw claped over her mouth and a pair of big eyes appeared, calming her weirdly enough.
"Shush! You'll blow our cover with a mouth like that." He said wwitg a shake of his head, but ash coukd read the nervous posture of him. He was just as frightened as she.
Soon, after moments of wandering around in the cavern, more and more eyes appeared. She didn't say anything, too afraid that she might scare them into a frenzy if she made a noise. Ash looked up, spotting a group of Zubats, clustering together for warmth and comfort. She envyed them.
*SNAP!*
They both froze and slowly looked down where a cracked stalagtite lay, broken in half from the fall. A scream split the air and a Zubat rushed at them, fangs elongated as if to bite them. Ash widened her eyes, fear and something else overwhelming her senses. Suddenly, her back flared up and she was on fire!
Ash opened her mouth as if to scream, but instead of words, an array of small flames and fires burst from her mouth, catching on the enemy and causing the thing to cry out in pain. Rowan ran at her just as she covered her mouth and put his hands forward, a blue ball shot out, radiating with light as it hit the Zubat and bounced off it, hit the others as well.
They all screeched at tthem in anger and agony, Ash let loose another bout of embers, making them flee out of the cave. Rowan stepped beside her, a look of astonishment and pride mimicking her own expression. He turned to hher, grabbing her shoulder with aa proud smile, "We beat them!" He cheered, his eyes bright with joy.
"What was that?" She asked.
"The fire? That was ember, a fire-type move. You must have learned it." He said with a pat on the back that made her cringe.
"Sorry, forgot about that." He laughed sheepishly.
Ash waved him off, giving him a kind smile and carried on down the cavern path. They weren't done yet....
****
After an hour of battling enemies in order to get to the real thieves, Ash learned a lot about this place.
Treasure Town was an old town that had been through a lot. Rowan told her about the new guild and it's old and current guildmaster. As of today, the guildmaster was
Isys, a proud grovyle and his right hand commander Hera, a celebi. She learned of the towns folk too. Triple Treasures, a small shop that sold goodies, run by three friends, Olli, Otis, and Opal. Olli was the eldest, a happy pikachu who sold berries. Then there was Opal, a sweet pachirisu who majored in special items. And last, there was Otis, the serious emolga who favored the trade of useable items like orbs and TMs. Whatever the heck those were.
Spindle's Pack Aways was the local storage unit. Spindle was a bright ariados with a heck of a knack for organization. He was a little off though; luckily, his son Spike was always around to set him straight again.
Noire was next, a classy gentleman with an eye for banking, in charge of the highly respected, Eternal Funds. Noire was an umbreon with a rough outer interior, gut s fot heart. Seemed Rowan enjoyed all of their company when he needed it.
It seemed the need to fight had stopped, they both sensed the end if the cavern as light began to filter through the smokey fog of it's depths.
It was about time that they set those no good juveniles straight. Through tthe small amount if time she spent talking to her newfound friend, she found that these were good people, but this, was unforgiveable!
"Ash, we need to be careful." He warned, holding her back slightly. Despite his calm and laidback composure at the moment, she could tell he was just as nervous as she. Ash nodded her understanding, took his hand and barged in to crash the party.
Rowan stepped up as we approached.
"Hey!"

"Hey!"
